Putting jazz on the map in Hasselt
& putting Hasselt on the jazz map!
'Jazz In Hasselt', formerly 'Jazzclub The Mood', is not a physical jazz club, but a non-profit organization that wants to stimulate the presence of (live) jazz in Hasselt. We do this by organizing the annual jazz pub crawl 'Hasselt In the Mood' on the one hand, and by collaborating with a number of partners on the other. This cooperation usually takes the form of advice, programming and promotion. In addition, 'Jazz In Hasselt' always guarantees a correct business approach and fair remuneration of musicians.
Within jazz we try to look broadly, and we strive for 'the right jazz in the right place'. We believe that a thriving jazz scene is locally anchored, is accessible, and builds on traditions.
Our board of unpaid volunteers reflects that belief:
Johan Camp (treasurer) is currently an ICT professional, plays (jazz) piano and saxophone, and is musical director of pop choir Just Music.
Gert-Jan Dreessen (secretary) is a professional jazz drummer, and teaches jazz drums and ensemble in Hasselt and at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven.
Arne Van Coillie (chairman) is a professional jazz pianist, and teaches jazz piano and jazz history in Hasselt.
Kim Versteynen is a professional jazz singer, and teaches jazz and pop singing in Hasselt.
Jo Nicolaï is department head of recordings and audiovisual projects at Opera House De Munt in Brussels and plays the (jazz) piano.
